How Cleaning Your Home can Clear Your Mind

Whenever I get “off track” or am lacking motivation in my life, I find my home becomes more disorganized. I feel like my physical space is a direct reflection of my mental space. When I am feeling lazy, I let things go, when my mind is too busy and cluttered, my physical world becomes busy and cluttered.

I fully believe that in order to live a healthy physical life, having a healthy home & physical space around you is also important. I am not going to lie, I don’t always feel like cleaning up my home, life, and being the most physically active person ever - but - I make myself some days. SHOCKER - it’s not actually that horrible when I make myself do things around my home and be active when I REALLY don’t feel like it.

NO I don’t make myself miserable. But I tell myself, if I am feeling lackluster, at a loss for motivation, or just overall FOGGY & cluttered, I start by clearing my physical surroundings.

I am sure there is some AMAZING science behind this or Feng Shui that may address a physical space // body connection issue. I am not a Feng Shui expert, just a feeler of “vibes” and someone who has experimented with enough of my own space / life and hear from enough people and clients that having a clean home really can inspire a more motivated life overall!

SO! I will let you in on a little secret. These are my top 5 tips when I am really trying to get up, grind, and be on my A-game. Sometimes a day is at a loss and you just need to accept the fact that you aren’t going to be 100% SUPER productive and amazing every single day. NO ONE IS.

But if you really need to get shit done and are sitting at home, at your desk, or staring at your running shoes wishing you couldn’t find them, try these tips.

1.) Make your Bed

I LITERALLY ALWAYS start with this. When in doubt make your freaking bed. Even if you need to wash the sheets. MAKE IT. You can always wake up tomorrow and wash your sheets then.

2.) Pick Up Stray Items & Put them Away

Pick up stray items and put them in their homes. Legos, shoes, socks, linens, pillows, that water glass or mail that’s been sitting out. Stick it in the dishwasher, hamper, toy bin, trash bin or junk drawer and MOVE FORWARD.

3.) Unload / Load your dishwasher

I find this is a fairly active task and when items become clean, I feel a little more cleansed myself. OR maybe I am just insane. 🙃

4.) Sweep / Vacuum

Cleaning stray crumbs off your wood floor & carpet can change air quality In a room as well as the vibe. It says “I care” and also - lets you walk barefoot a little more peacefully (can we talk about grounding for a minute??).

5.) Make TEA & drink it all without looking at your phone

I really feel like my phone can make my day really get away from me. I am SO unproductive when I am tooling around on there being super ADD. SO. Put the ole girl down and focus on just being in your moment. Each sip, consider your day and what your goals are, how you want to feel, etc. 💫

I know over HALF these tips sound like cleaning / chores. And most of you might honestly feel like F-THAT.

But to be honest, all these tasks will get you off your butt, and into some kind of ZONE. Sometimes I need to put on a playlist and just jam out. But by physically moving and accomplishing small tasks that give you that sense of gratification (its science) that may be just the kick you need to inspire a workout or to finally get into the zone to get a big chunk of work done from your home office.

I hope this helps!
